(Cleveland)- Black rhinos at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo played one of the largest bowling games ever.

Animal keepers set up three bowling pins and a ball made out of papier-mache with treats hidden inside. The rhinos didn't roll a strike but the two rhinos did knock the pins over.

The bowling game was held to promote the 'Bowling for Rhinos' fundraiser this Saturday from 6:30pm to midnight at Cloverleaf Lanes in Independence.

The 23rd annual event by the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers is to raise money for rhino sanctuaries in Kenya, Java and Sumatra. Due to habitat loss and poaching several rhino species are on the verge of extinction. Since 1990 the Cleveland chapter has given more than $113,000 to help save endangered rhinos.

Advanced registration is $20, plus $20 minimum sponsorship for adults or $10 for children. Registration at the door is $40. Donations include three games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, pop and snacks. Bowlers that raise $100 or more will receive a free gift. There will also be a silent auction, raffles, entertainment and trivia.

Registration forms are at or in the Zoo's administration building. For more information call (216) 661-6500.
