(Cleveland) - Dozens of people participated in a demonstration of support for democracy in Ukraine on the steps of Cleveland City Hall.

Among the speakers was downtown Councilman Joe Cimperman who told the gathering that the winds of change were blowing throughout the European continent.

There was singing, and chants of "Freedom for Ukraine". Many of the protesters have relatives and friends in Ukraine and they called on the U.S. to put more pressure on the government there.

Ukraine's president is agreeing to call an early election as part of a deal to end violent protests. Viktor Yanukovych says he will also make constitutional changes limiting the president's power.

The compromise was reportedly reached after hours of debate between the government and opposition leaders. Protesters, government police, and security forces are still in a stand off in Kiev.

Cleveland protesters Michael and Yaryna told Newsradio WTAM 1100, they feel the President's concessions are good step, but would like to see a total transition to a western-style democracy that's free of influence from Russia.
